Race for victory

More than 500 school children from across the Fylde coast took part in a major athletics competition organised by the Wyre & Fylde Partnership.

In the Primary School event 10 schools were competing for the gold medal slot. In addition to winning the Primary Indoor Athletics Winners title the highest scoring school from Wyre and from Fylde went on to represent the partnership at the Indoor Athletics County Competition. After a closely contested event consisting of a host of track and field events, including relays, lap races, long jump and triple jump the overall winning school was Newton Blue Coat Primary School. Carr Head Primary School where the highest scoring Wyre Primary School. The county event was held at Clayton Green Sports Centre were 14 schools took part. The Wyre & Fylde schools gave their all with Netwton Blue Coat gaining a place on the podium takeing 3rd place.

The winning team from the secodary school Year 7 & 8 competition was Lytham St annes High School who also went on to represent the partnership at the county event. Again, the Fylde school definately held their own against the other schools from across Lancashire with Lytham just missing out on gold place to take 2nd. The year 9 & 10 Indoor Athletics event took place at Thornton YMCA were all 10 schools from accross Wyre & Fylde took part. Lytham St Annes were the overall winners with Cardinal Allen and Carr Hill finishing joint 2nd.
