On Thursday 29th April the all weather pitch of Fleetwood Sports College was transformed into Wembley stadium when it hosted a tournament including 5 local primary schools.
The emphasis of this tournament was all about increasing participation and having fun. The event in partnership with Fleetwood Town FC and Fleetwood Sports College helped give boys and girls of all abilities in year 3 and 4 the chance to play competitive matches against other schools from the Fleetwood area.Years 3 and 4 teams from Charles Saer, Flakefleet, St Mary's, St Wulstan's & St Edmunds and Shakespeare all participated in the tournament, all playing each other once on one of three pitches. Every school then played one more match. The team finishing 1st played against 2nd place, 3rd vs 4th and 5th vs 6th.The excitement was sky high by this point, and the big final was a very close game between St Mary's and St Wulstan's & St Edmunds. Both teams battled really hard bur St Marys sneaked a win making them the overall winners.
The festival was refereed by pupils from the Sports College who did a fantastic job keeping the games running smoothly and calculating the scores. Many thanks to Anne Taylor and Lee Cadwallader from the Wyre & Fylde School Sports Partnership for their hours of preparation and organisation of the Junior Football Organisers, equipment, facilities, certificates and medals.
To top off the day, every player got to meet Fleetwood Town FC keeper Craig Dootson, and received a certificate from him. Many thanks to Doots for his time and effort to make it down to witness the stars of the future.
Melissa Brown, Community Development Coach for Fleetwood Town FC commented “It was a real pleasure seeing all the children I coach personally in the schools, coming together and enjoying their football. All the schools should be proud of the conduct and appreciation they showed today”. Many thanks to all involved.Next one coming soon! Melissa BrownCommunity Development CoachFleetwood Town FC
