On the 26th March St Peters Primary School, Heyhouses Primary School, St Thomas Primary School and Clifton Primary School took part in the 6 a side event at Fylde RFC astro turf pitch. Allan Williams, FA Tesco Skills Coach, was on hand to put the girls through a fun warm up before the competition took place and to personally invite all the girls to the girls only session he runs at St Georges High School on Wednesdays 6-7pm.
Soon as the competition started the goals started to fly in. After the group stage the 3rd and 4th play off was between Heyhouses and St Thomas with Clifton and St Peter's battling to be the champions in the first and second play off. St Thomas won 3rd place after a determined win against Heyhouses. In the 1st v 2nd final, the first half was a very close encounter but St Peters finished overall winners 2-0. St Peter's will now go onto the Spar Lancashire Youth Games which are being held at Blackpool Sports Centre 28th May.
The event was a fantastic opportunity for young girls to play football for their school in a relaxed, competitive environment and the chance to highlight the increasing interest in female football. All the girls gave 100% and some of the girls were playing football for the first time. From the goal celebrations, it looked as though they all had a positive experience of playing football and will hopefully continue to play in the future.
Well done to all the schools that took part!
