On Wednesday afternoon, 16 teams of pupils from primary schools within the Kirkham, Wesham and Rural Fylde PE Association took part in the annual Six a side Football competition at Carr Hill High School.
After the group matches, 8 teams made it through to the semi final stage. Three of those matches went to extra time, with one being decided through a ‘golden goal’ and the other two resulting in a penalty shoot out. My heart went out to all of those children that had to step up and take a penalty. 4 of those teams then progressed to the finals.
The large school final saw St Paul’s play The Willows and in the small school final it was Singleton against Holy Family. The Willows came out on top 2-1, but in the other final it was like de-javu, as it went to extra time and then another penalty shoot out! Eventually, Singleton took the title of small school winners.
A big well done and thank you to all the pupils for taking part and the staff and supporters for bringing them to the event and cheering them on.
A special mention needs to go as well to the referees and linesmen from Carr Hill, they were brilliant and we couldn’t have managed without them.
We are very grateful for the continued support and sponsorship provided by Kirkham Lions Club, who provided medals for the winners and runners up. Mr Colin Fosbury kindly came down to watch and then delivered a presentation at the end of the afternoon.
I am sure you will agree, it was a really enjoyable afternoon and we were again very lucky with the weather.
Roll on next year
