The Wyre and Fylde School Sport Partnership

The Wyre and Fylde School Sport Partnership brings together families of Schools; Clubs; Local Authorities; National Governing Bodies of Sport and other community organisations under one umbrella, to provide sporting opportunities within and beyond the curriculum.

The Partnership has been active since September 2005, when it consisted of 6 Secondary, 31 Primary, 2 Special, and 1 EBD school. After expanding in September 2006 to include schools within the Fylde area and other remaining parts of Wyre, it now comprises of a sports college, 9 Secondary, 66 Primary, 3 Special Schools, 1 school for pupils with Social, Emotional & Behavioural Difficulties (SEBD) and 1 Pupil Referral Unit (PRU)

All partnerships nationally have been working towards the government PSA target of pupils spending at least 2 hours a week on high quality PE and School Sport and up to a further 3 hours in out of school hours activities or community settings. There are 5 key strands in the drive towards the 2011 ambition: -

  • Provision of High Quality PE for all students
  • Provision of opportunities for all young people to participate in a range of high quality    activities on a school site
  • Opportunities for all young people to access a range of high quality activities in a community environment
  • Provision for all young people to develop their potential
  • Provision for young people to undertake high quality Leadership and Volunteering

The 2009/10 School Sport Survey shows 56% of children and young people at schools in the two boroughs now take part in at least three hours of PE & school sport each week, compared to 55% nationally.

The infrastructure has also created wider opportunities and experiences:

  • 20% of young people are actively involved in sports leadership and volunteering.
  • Over a third of pupils are doing sport in local clubs, including dance and multi skill, through formal links set up with schools.
  • Each School is offering its pupils the chance to try an average of 20 different sports.
  • 89% of young people in the partnership are taking part in competitive sporting opportunities within school.
  • Almost half of all pupils (47%) have taken part in a sports competition against another school in their area.

This is a remarkable achievement and reflects the hard work and dedication of the entire school sport network. In thanking all Head Teachers, Primary Link Teachers and School Sport Co-ordinators for their hard work and continued support.
